The Story of Stephanus Hamy’s Kain Tenun

The show began with a screen that displayed black and white photos of East Nusa Tenggara people. Then, the collection started with a series of clothing in terracotta, chic, and light colors, which was followed by indigo tone, navy blue, yellow and green, yet still casual. At the beginning, nothing new was presented; jacket, tops, and dresses were all still at the same path as last year’s collection. Just then, finally the every piece of collection seemed to move more dynamically, with more daring style.
In the same tone yet more elegant appearance, sequins, studs, shawls, and studded belts were seen everywhere. Other details were also shown, such as dark tone that was combined with light colors such as red and green, and Hamy’s typical pleated technique. The combination of it was very eye-refreshing.
Next year, Hamy will cooperate with Cita Tenun Indonesia to work with the East Nusa Tenggara’s tenun ikat craftsmen. (Kartini Brotosuharjo / team covering Femina)
