All-in-one Tradition and Modernity

Inspired by Indonesia’s cultural Heritage, IKAT Indonesia by Didiet Maulana brought up baju bodo trend (South Sulawesi traditional dress) into 62-plus-piece collection of menswear and womenswear on Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2013, Monday November 13th. Entitled “Romantika Mentari”, Didiet introduced his tropical vivid pastels nuance collection to the runway.
The show was commenced by Andien’s soft and fruity voice chanting in Simfoni Raya Indonesia. The resplendent Sengkang weaving combined with gauzy fabric in pastels and typical weaving colors: red, bold blue, green, purple, and brown, dominated the show avidly. Low-key design and cutting over traditional weaving fabric was creatively able to reflect contemporary urban style nowadays.
Beads and crystal over sheer silk beautified the womenswear collection. On the other hand, casual style represented in the disparate style of jacket, pants, shirt, and shoes, captivated menswear collection.
Though elevated traditional fabric, Didiet had successfully depicted urban styles through “Romantika Mentari” show and ultimately closed the series of Jakarta Fashion Week 2013 into festivity. An appealing tribute to accelerate Indonesia’s cultural countenance globally.
