Fantasy Game of Alleira Batik

Alleira Batik once again showed its commitment to the national fashion industry by participating in the 2014 Jakarta Fashion Week. This time, Alleira appeared more alluring with bright color gradients which are Alleira’s specialty combined with Toraja weaving motif. “Bright color gradient is our commitment. And now we try to develop the Toraja weaving motif by using canting,” explained Anita Asmayani, the creator of Alleira Batik. Collaborating with Manda Rahardjo, a local young designer, Alleira showed an edgy and modern collection while the beautiful batik still stood out.

In their fourth partnership, Alleira with Manda showcased their four-part collection and each part had its own uniqueness. The show kicked off with a model wearing a purple & yellow lightweight short jumpsuit. It straight away carried out a young and modern vibe. This was also a part of the first sequence themed “The Rabbit Hole”, which resembled the popular psychedelic style circa 60’s.

There were beautiful color-blocking combos of purple, green, blue, yellow and red; representing the typical fashion of un-conventional youngsters. A cluster of casual clothes, like Jodhpur pants, skinny pants, miniskirts, were Manda’s first choice. ATBM and silk materials used underlined the designer’s passion to make comfortable-yet-luxurious ready-to-wear pieces.

In the second part, Manda also presented an unusual theme in batik design, “The World of Tomorrow”. The inspiration came from the subgenre of science fiction which is steampunk. Still maintaining a casual look, Manda applied the laser cut technique onto the fabric. The distinct pleat technique resulting in the asymmetrical-cutting blouses looked unique in brown and grey mixed with pastel color schemes. A modern look was shown in skort and pleather sheath dresses. The leather vests with batik hoodie also added an edgy look to her collection.

Her imagination was also shown in the next part, “The Royal Cardsmen March”. Alice in Wonderland elements strongly inspired these pieces as there were hearts and roses motifs on the ATBM mini dresses. The white sheath dresses with batik “wings”, or batik sheath dresses with black/white colors here and there looked unusual-yet-exceptional.

The last part began with a display of flaming fire. It illustrated a dragon, a legendary creature believed to have strong charm and character. This was translated into the series of evening dresses made from ATBM, silk and organza materials in black, red, orange and yellow. The mini dresses with silk black cape was not less interesting. Very classy. For this part, Manda gave the theme “Chimera”, which is a three-headed creature in the Greek mythology. (Constantia K. Soedjadi/Women’s Health Indonesia)
