National Heritage Parade
Sarinah Department Store held the fashion show themed “Modern in Heritage” at the Fashion Tent of the 2014 Jakarta Fashion Week. It presented various fashion brands such as Mea, Boroko, Galeri Batik Jawa and Rumah Betawi.
As the theme suggested, the heritage of Indonesia was shown in modern package. Sarinah Department Store intended to present the fresh, young and contemporary ethnic nuance. It partnered with both traditional craftsmen and local designers.
Mea, the house brand/private label of Sarinah, showcased the casual clothes and cocktail wear for women. Collaborating with Sapto Djojokartiko and Tasya Ascobat Reza, the brand created the collection appropriate for office wear.
Meanwhile, Boroko presented batik clothes uniquely mixed with natural colors and simple concept. Boroko also used painting technique on the dresses, blouses, shirts, jarik and materials like cotton weaving and silk. Besides Boroko, there was also Galeri Batik Jawa, who consistently utilizes natural coloring materials, exhibited the collection of “A Shade of Blue”. Most of the collection used indigo dyeing technique.
Rumah Betawi chose to have vibrant colors like red, blue and yellow in the collection themed “The Color of Batavian”. The Betawi Kebaya looked more trendy and chic as seen in the kebaya combined with miniskirts or short-sleeved kebaya with low V-neck. (Dewi Irma/Dewi)
