The Masterpiece Parade of Alumni

The prestigious event Lomba Perancang Busana (LPM) or a fashion designer competition has been held since 1979 and has produced a number of talented, well-known designers such as Edward Hutabarat, Priyo Oktaviano, and Tex Saverio. On Friday (10/25), At the Jakarta Fashion Week 2014 fashion tent, LPM proudly presented its alumni showcasing their typical collections that were familiar in the eyes of fashionistas.
Carmanita opened the event LPM Graduates by bringing up the theme “Spice Weave” featuring her gorgeous 12 collections that were inspired by the beauty of Indonesia, tenun, and ikat from Timor. Carmanita, the second winner of 1987 LPM, also revealed the essence of spice colors on her tenun. Following Carmanita, Ferry Sunarto, the first winner of 1995 LPM, came up with the theme “The Purity of Harmony” displaying his luxurious collection that was inspired by a figure of a beautiful woman. Sunarto admitted that his collection was more energized. The concept was casted on cocktail dresses to couture kebaya with romantic yellow and dusty purple.
The third sequence of LPM Graduates was enlivened by Andreas Odang’s stunning collection, the alumnus of 2005 LPM. His feminine-androgyny style was appeared in his mini collection that was inspired by the minimalist architecture. In addition, there was also embroidered flowers that gave a feminine impression to his maxi and pencil skirts. Lastly, Hian Tjen, the favorite winner of 2007 LPM, brought up the romantic, mystical, elegant, and sexy sides of a woman in her 16 collections. All dresses used French lace, organdy, and chiffon, embellished with flower detail, embroidery application, and Swarovski crystals. Looking at the result, Tjen’s dresses deserved to be given the title “Red Carpet Material” because of their feminine and sexy silhouette.
Since 2011, working closely with Grazia magazine and Istituto Marangoni, LPM has held LPM Entrepreneur Award that gives awards not only to ‘the style makers’, but also to the finalists and winners of LPM. This year, one of the awards was given to Cynthia Tan who was eligible for getting a short course scholarship at Istituto Marangoni, Milan, Italy. Congrats!
