The New Interpretation of Today’s Women

In its second year, the Indonesia Fashion Forward – a
collaboration program of Jakarta Fashion Week, British Council and the Ministry
of Travel and Creative Economy – has come to fruition. It can be seen as three members
of the program have successfully held their shows on October 19th,
2013. They are Major Minor, Friederich Herman and Jeffry Tan, and the audience
was assuredly astonished by their collections of ‘Premium Ready to Wear’.
It seems that the passion of strong and confident woman
becomes the red line of the Spring/Summer 2014 collection as it was reflected
in the designs of these designers. Ari Seputra for Major Minor stayed true to
the label’s character of asymmetrical loose-fitting clothes. The pale colors
like grey and pale blue were combined nicely with bright colors of tie-dye
patterns. The collection was also completed with tribal headbands.
Meanwhile, the young designer Friederich Herman brought an
esthetic neo-power dressing infused by rock and roll vibe. Diverse blazers,
shirt dresses, blouses and short dresses wrapped the models in achromatic
colors mixed with purple. As his previous offerings, a clean cut design was still
the success key of the 2011 Femina Fashion Designer Competition finalist.
A similar spirit was seen in the collection of Jeffry Tan,
“Prism”. With a fuse of sensual and modern elements, he presented an intimate
design for women. It was recognized in the loose-fitting silhouette with
drapery detail. A Japanese avant-garde essence that has been this designer’s
DNA also returned smoothly yet brilliantly, thanks to the light-weighted silk
material.
