Designer Profile
Born into a family of couturiers, Susanna Perini’s innate approach to design and the arts was inherent at an early age. She spent the early years of her career supporting her mother’s prêt-à-porter company while studying anthropology and working as a fashion photographer in her native Italy. It was a shoot for Donna magazine that first brought Susanna to Bali in 1987, a trip that deeply impacted her journey as she instantly decided to make the island her home, where she founded BIASA in 1994.
Over three decades later, BIASA is an award-winning and internationally recognized fashion, art, and lifestyle brand, with eight boutiques and three art galleries in Bali and Jakarta and a large international following.
Susanna continues to express her philosophy and vision through her life’s work in fashion and contemporary art. She actively supports local artisans, traditional craftsmen, and Indonesian contemporary artists’ exhibitions and international residencies through BIASA Art in Jakarta and Bali. She remains an active supporter of various charities across Indonesia through her philanthropic activities.
In 2017, Susanna received a “Knighthood of the Order of Merit” from the President of the Republic of Italy in honor of her continuous support of Indonesian arts and became a naturalized Indonesian citizen.

A playful twist on the Indonesian word for ‘ordinary’, BIASA is anything but. Founded in Bali in 1994 by designer and art gallerist Susanna Perini, BIASA is an independent international label known for luxury resort-wear.
