One Stage, Three Identities
Dian Pelangi is one of the leading names in the fashion industries; especially since she was nominated as one of the Most Influential People Shaping the Global Industry by The Business of Fashion in London. Svida Alisjahbana, CEO of Femina Group, was one of the first Indonesian to enter in the list in 2014. Dian Pelangi is also one of the first generation designers from the Indonesia Fashion Forward, a cooperation of Jakarta Fashion Week, British Council, Creative Economy Agency, and the Center of Fashion Enterprise. Dian Pelangi’s collection at Jakarta Fashion Week 2016 became formidable with the collaborations with two textile designers graduates from the London College of Fashion. They are Nelly Rose whom is British and Odette Steele from Zambia, Africa.
During the "London College of Fashion Residential Program – Presents Dian Pelangi, Odette Steele & Nelly Rose" which encloses the third day of Jakarta Fashion Week 2016, October 26, 2015, the modest fashion look glamorous in a line of bold style and color. Appearing attractive in a long dress and matching trousers with a baggy top, matching the theme "Co-Identity". Woven batik Pekalongan appear synergistically with the London center style and embroidery and sequins typical of Africa. Abstract prints of archipelago birdsmerge gracefully with the batik. A touch of graffiti that is often seen in urban Europe is also seen in the form of colors and modern prints typical toLondon. Variety of accessories from sunglasses to shoes enhances the overall look.
What’s very interesting to see is how the three designers collate to what they call a modest fashion and mainstream fashion. "The modest style is no longer a matter of uniformity, but has evolved into a fashion segment that goes hand in hand with time; modest fashion can be used by anyone," said Dian Pelangi.
From pergeralaran clothes that took place in the Fashion Tent, Senayan City, Dian Pelangiadmits that she always venture out of her comfort zone. The 24-year-old woman took the opportunity of working to the global market; in collaboration with the British Council and London College of Fashion. Exactly at the International Fashion Showcase last February 2015 in London, together they holda program called “Fashion Mission”. As a resident designer, Dian give hijab workshops and organize design competition for students. Two winners; Odette and Nelly stayed in Pekalongan, Central Java; together with Dian, the trio prepared the collection for Jakarta Fashion Week 2016.
