The Craftsman in the Space of Jakarta

Josephine W. Komara, a designer known by the name O'Bin, bringing to mind Indonesian traditions through the opening demonstration on the fourth day of Jakarta Fashion Week. Under the BINhouse label; the design team of the fashion line; took inspiration from the city Jakarta interpreting it in the collection. Dominated by vibrant colors, the models danced down the runway.

Companied by an up-beat song a model came up from behind the stage; wearing a blue jumpsuit, she swayed and greets the guests. The presentation was quiet surprising, considering what O'Bin will be showcasing us are ‘Kebaya’ with and earthy fabrics. Whilst, the first series of collection were filled with dresses that tend to look more sporty / boyish. The fabric is not wrapped as a skirt, but has turned into a cargo pants, but still with an impressive batik pattern feminine and earthy

So as the tops; the amount of Kebaya kutubaru shown is equal to high-collared shirt and plain turtle neck tops. Interestingly, the collection comes with an outfit that resembles the ‘sorjan’; a Javanese traditional clothes worn by the male laborer. Not only that, a touch of ‘Peranakan’ also comes through; long top like the Chinese men's daily wear.

The delighted show was top off with the identical O’Bin fashion; A models walks carrying a red scarf, with jasmine flowers decorating her hair. The designs fall back to the characteristic of O'Bin, ‘kebaya’ and fabrics that seem dapper, without much modification; a sleek finale for the exhilarated and striking collection.
