The Importance of Quality Materials For Fashion Product
Indonesia’s fashion industry is one industry that is rapidly growing in recent years, with the emergence of new talents which sparked the revival of the garment and textile industries as supporters of fashion. Michelle Tjokrosaputro and Cindy Gozali, as part of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) and the Indonesian Association of Garment and Accessories Supplier (APGAI) explain how designers can work to obtain materials for large-scale fashion production.
Designers’ ability to research, choose and select prospective manufacturers becomes a major factor, because Indonesia has a variety of large-scale garment enterprises to home production that emphasizes the work of the artisan. "People today have to have a fairly high awareness of the quality of the goods they buy and wear," said Michelle Tjokrosaputro in the opening discussion of Naturally Inspiring Wool Workshop [31/8] with CEO of Femina Group and event host, Svida Alisjahbana. Michelle added that now young designers have started to understand the importance of using good material in the production of clothing, especially in ready-to-wear. They begin travelling around the world and visiting a wide range of trade shows to find fabrics and materials to use in their creations.
Cindy Gozali also emphasize on how designers should have good relations with other fashion players, especially manufacturers of garments and textiles. "In times of crisis, as of now, the factories require constant orders in order to survive. So that is where our role as an organization, in order to bridge between the designers and fashion labels with the manufacturing industry, so that they can support one another,” she replied when asked about APGAI’s role in supporting the industry.
Both agree that innovations and attention to quality of the end product will be a major factor that will determine the success of a designer or a fashion label. "The key to it all is to obtain the instinct and willingness to establish a good relationship with all parties involved in the production process," concludes Michelle at the end of the session.
