The Next International Woolmark Competition 2016/2017

The Woolmark Company will hold another Woolmark Prize in the near future. Through the event of international competition, global authority in wool, which is part of the Australian Wool Innovation is looking for talents from all over the world, that owns high knowledge to process wool into a beautiful and charming collection
 
That stated by Lucrezia Seu, International Woolmark Prize Asia Project Manager, during a talk session at Jakarta Fashion Week, “By the end of the year, we will start casting designer to represent Indonesia. Then, next year the designer will be put to contend in a regional scale”
 
In a period of competition, which is 21 months, beginning with the nomination or selection, then the judging until the winner of the competitor’s design is sold to a partnering retailer of Woolmark. Prestige retailers such as Saks 5th Avenue New York, Harvey Nichols London and Isetan Japan.
 
To be able to participate in the competition the requirements are able to work for a women’s wear and menswear, solo designer or a team with maximum of three people, Indonesian citizen, has at least 6 years of experience in the fashion industries, also owning maximum of 30 retail stores; lastly willing to mass-product the collection. The winner of the Woolmark Prize must be willing to sold their collection to Woolmarkcompany
 

A tip from Lucrezia; designers are encouraged to use a lot of wool material seeing that they will be working with wool quiet a lot. The pre-jury will be scored based on the business plan, development program, moodboard, design sketches, and also the fashion show.
 
The Woolmark Prize itself has a reputation as one of the most prestigious awards to carry young designers to the global market; since 1953. The previous winners of The Woolmark Prize are known as to be an excellent player; named Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent whom won the award on 1954, when they were about 21 and 18 year’s old under the category for coats and dresses. Rahul Mishra, Indian designer whom showcases his collection on the first day of Jakarta Fashion Week, was also the winner of the competition on 2014-2015.
 
Post-hiatus for a short period of time the competition was held back at 2012, featuring big names that are well known in the industries such as, Donatella Versace, FridaGiannini, Franca Sozzani, and Victoria Beckham.
