Cross-Culture of Korean and Indonesian

The merging process of culture from two different countries always results in a fresh new fashion mode. Also it reflects the modern globalization creating a new dimension in art. This goes to show by the Korean Culture Center in Jakarta Fashion Week 2016.

Third year of the event in Jakarta Fashion Week, the Korean Culture Center showcases Indonesia’s young designer, Patrick Owen, which last year won the Australia-Indonesia Fashion Designer award with Peggy Hartanto and Korean designer; Su Jinn Kim through the brand, Soulpot Studio.

Draw up the theme “Street”; Patrick Owen cause to present a ready to wear that inspires from the Korean Street Style but also very Jakarta-theme influenced. According to the said designer, the Jakarta busy street has its own character that will make a very interesting collection. For his Spring/Summer 2016 Collection, Patrick uses a lot of denim material, turning it into different kinds of dress, skirts, even tops. The feminine accents are displayed through details like, ruffles on the bottom of the dresses. Patrick, like his previous collections tends to wear more dark color with a touch of art inspired from the artist, Tatiana Romanova Surya.

Whilst Su Jinn Kim uses fashion as a narrative media to break through the limitation of art from a show room to a collection. Sporty and androgyny with a touch of feminine is what decorates the collection “Wild Flower” from Soulpot Studio. Aside presenting monochrome colors, a little orange was added to make it more dashing.

Collaboration between two designers is what set up the international standard of fashion in Indonesia.
