Iconic: Creating a New Kind of Icon for the Region
Thai brand ICONIC brought their smashing style to the runway of Jakarta Fashion Week 2017 on Tuesday October 25th. ICONIC is a brand that is fast becoming known the world over, having recently shown in Paris and Vietnam it shows no sign of slowing down.
ICONIC's runway show, sponsored by DITP (Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, Thailand), was nothing short of amazing. The bright colors and bold prints tell the story of independent women who could stand on her own and look fabulous whist doing so.
ICONIC's design director Louis stated that as this was his first time visiting Jakarta and presenting his collection to Indonesian consumers he was pleasantly surprised about all that Jakarta has to offer, saying, “Jakarta has a very strong culture and a very interesting fashion industry, the city seems to have its own unique fashion culture that maybe I will be able to incorporate into a future ICNONIC collection.”
Louis continued by saying, “I feel religion plays a big role in Jakarta’s fashion industry, modest wear in particular really gives Jakarta its own unique character that differentiates it from other fashion capitals within the region.”
According to Louis, ICONIC is a brand that represents iconic women from all over the world and all walks of life, “This collection was based on iconic women who hailed from ancient Egypt. The first look presented in our runway show was inspired by queen Nefertiti giving what she wore a modern twist by using embroidery and new age prints that give an Egyptian feel.”
When asked why Egypt was chosen as the theme of this collection, Luis continued by saying, “By researching current trends, I found that Eastern culture is becoming increasingly more popular, therefore I decided Egypt was the right choice.”
Relaying his wishes for the future of ICONIC, Louis says, “I hope this collection will attract Indonesian consumers and buyers. I would also like to do a collaboration with local designers using prints form both Thailand and Indonesia.”
