Parang in the Hands of Edward Hutabarat

The present-day cannot be detached from Edward Hutabarat. The designer commonly known as Edo keeps striving in making batik as his realm of exploration. This time, at the 2014 Jakarta Fashion Week, Edo explored the most sublime pattern in the batik world, which is Parang.

Edo exhibited 82 pieces of clothes of simplicity, sexy and in quality. The collection was dominated by baby doll and blazer pieces with lace detail, as well as striped or plaid belt. Edo also brought polkadot into batik. “I want to bring out the beauty of batik by using simple line and not-over-the-top cutting,” he said.

Edo also put Solo, Yogya, Cirebon and Pekalongan batik patterns in the design. These patterns were linked to each other. The conventional colors of Yogya and Solo batik were blended with bright colors identical with animal prints. Edo considered that the modern pieces were suitable to be worn in the spring in Paris, Milan or New York.

Accessories like necklace, bracelet and earrings were absent from his second-line, Part One Edward Hutabarat. As a replacement, Edo completed the outfit with the trendy glasses collection of Optik Melawai.

This year his show was supported by Dewi magazine, a global mindset magazine but is still bonded to the Indonesian norm and value. Everyone attended the show, Dewi Presents The Parang Edward Hutabarat, utterly enjoyed the collection, including celebrities like Becky Tumewu and Titi DJ.
