PASSE ET PRESENT: Earth Inspiration

Human being can not disattach his reciprocated relation with earth as his habitat. It is little  wonder the earth’s treasures always be the major inspiration for art as vividly demonstrated in PASSE ET PRESENT runway in Fashion Tent, Jakarta Fashion Week 2017 (25/10).

The runway show were divided into three sequences and unfolded collections ftheir rom three designers with their fine signatures. The paralellism between those were the existence of earth tones in their collections.

First part was unlocked by a designer from Pekalongan, Central Java, Khanaan Shamlan. The collection, Lingir, boosted batik pattern as main key. It was rather unusual when Khanan emerged with “Bok” motive, commonly used as the edge of batik garments, as centre of his interest. The Muslim clothing with loose sillhouete were presented beautifully.

The second sequence was given to Kami, a ready-to-wear Muslim fashion show, Sadu. The word Sadu means survive, patience, and determination. The collection with bold nuances used butterflied as its major inspiration. The gorgeous flying insect was applied in printed, payette and embroidery details. The clothing were slightly edgy and boyish, yet feminine.

The last part was the collection from Muslim clothing designer’s, Vivi Zubedi, with her trademark, Abaya. There were 16 cut loose ensembles with very distinguished earth tone nuances. Embroidery accents and ruffles ornament enhanced the collection that used natural components, such as trees, flowers, and gleeful tribal motives  as dominant elements.
