The Dekranasda Challenge towards Designers

Dekranasda (Dewan Kerajinan Nasional Daerah) takes part another year in Jakarta Fashion Week 2016. This year, Dekranasda challenges the local designer to interpret DKI Jakarta’s famous icon to their collection. The result came out as an astonishing fashion parade from 10 local designers, titled theme of “Dances of Flora and Fauna in Jakarta”.

The people’s knowledge about the icon of Jakarta, aside National Monument (Monas), and ondel-ondel are fairly poor, that been said by Ade R. Hasan Basri, secretary of Dekranasda. Whereas, Jakarta has a lot of famous icon like the flora and fauna of the city; which some are classified rare. There are 9 different kind of flora and 4 fauna’s that are mentioned rare. Which are, Salak Condet, Yellow Sirih, Tapak Dara, Nona Makan Sirih, Kerak Nasi Flower, Gambir Jasmine, The bold Eagle, Bulus, and Mottle fan Bird.

The tricky challenge is how to interpret these icons to the collection of the participating designers, said Veronica Tjahaja Basuki, Head of Dekranasda to the contestant.

“To add more inspiration to the designs of the world of fashion” added Ade. Especially, on the development of Batik, that was filled with philosophy and creativities. Aside from that, Dekranasda also wants to open the eyes of the people to see these iconic icons of Jakarta through the collection of fashion, with the silhouette, cuts, and models that doesn’t fall far from the tree.
