The Entertaining Wayang Golek (Puppet Show)

As the leading laundry company, it does not appear to be unusual when 5àsec chose Mel Ahyar to represent their support for the fashion industry. Although still young, Mel’s national and international achievement is unquestionable.
Through her new collection, Mel brought the traditional art Wayang Golek which illustrated the common relationship between a society and their hero. The characters like Punakawan, Semar, Gareng and Petruk, as well as the Pandawa Lima (Five Pandawas): Yudistira, Bima, Arjuna, Nakula and Sadewa, were poured into fresh and fun Kawaii-style illustrations by Yona Yu. They were printed onto the fabric as well as applied into embroidery.
Although the illustrations appeared cute, the cutting looked modern instead. The short and loose dresses ala 90’s were present in black and white. Some of them were sexily see-through. Meanwhile, the black body-fit pieces had transparent silhouette lines, creating a slim impression.
The cotton silk, taffeta silk, organdy silk and tulle materials dominated the show. The long black dresses had lace and embroidery accents which also gave the slim look. Ornamented with sequins and stones, the creations looked avant-garde. (Mariska Sebayang/Women’s Health Indonesia)
