The Glorious Fashion Design Competition (1)
One of the biggest shows of the Jakarta Fashion Week is the Fashion Design Competition (LPM). This year was the first time where the judging process could be seen live by the audience. Exactly on the last day of the 2014 Jakarta Fashion Week, the semifinalists of LPM presented their designs before the judges at the Fashion Atrium.
The judges were Petty S. Fatimah (the Chairman of the 2013 LPM and the Editor in Chief of Femina), Musa Widyatmojo and Ferry Sunarto (the alumni of LPM), Amy Wirabudi (a fashion observer), Glenn Prasetya (a fashion fotographer), Astrid Ariani Wijana (the Senior
Marketing Manager of Mazda Motor Indonesia) and Imelda L. (the Fashion Director of PT. Matahari Department Store). The judging criteria were the design and material knowledge as well as the purchasing power and how wearable the clothes would be.
With the theme “24-Hour Style” intended for active women, the designers showed up with their own uniqueness. Andika Kurniawan opened the show with the classic, casual-yet-elegant “Dynamic Repetition”. Meanwhile, Carla Handayani presented the “Twiganometric” collection of unconventional angle and cutting. The mixing of neon and earth-tone colors made the designs look like no other.
Christian Wohangara, on the other hand, presented the “Urban Complex” collection. The dominating pleats and black and dark grey fabrics were parts of the clothes. Then Claudia Halim with her “Blurred Lines” collection carried out nude-and-grey-colored pieces. The unique cutting was combined with a stylish design but still looked formal. Diana Nathania with “The Peony” presented her sexy and futuristic collection using lurik material and floral prints.
Ghana Serra Wijaya with “Urban Heroine” was not less exceptional. Her collection of bomber reversible jackets, sporty cropped pants, and basic pencil skirts were full of motifs mixture. Gina Levina as the last semifinalist on this first part of the show showcased the “Summer Awakening”. Pastel blue, pink, green and cream colors were nicely mixed with the striped motifs in this collection.
The show was closed with the questions from the judges. After the first ten semifinalists gave their answers, the show moved on to the last ten semifinalists. Check out “The Glorious Fashion Design Competition (2)” (Novita Permata Sari, Anggara Dialusi, Imelda Rahmawati/Cleo)
