The Innovations of Jakarta Fashion Week 2016
“A fashion industry is an industry that should be built continuously by the stakeholders”, said Svida Alisjahbana, CEO of Femina Group and Chairman of Jakarta Fashion Week 2016, in the opening ceremony of Jakarta Fashion Week 2016 at Fashion Tent, Senayan City, Jakarta, on Saturday, October 24, 2015.
According Svida Alisjahbana, all the parties involved wants that fashion industry in Indonesian continuously doing an innovation and developing its creativity. "This is the role of Jakarta Fashion Week, to be a moderator and a platform for all the stakeholders involved: designers, entrepreneurs, government agencies, beauty industries, retailers, fashion school, and of course the fashion lovers," she said.
In this occasion, Svida Alisjahbana expressed her pride about the development of Indonesia Fashion Forward program which was originally initiated by Jakarta Fashion Week. Indonesia Fashion Forward was developed by Jakarta Fashion Week together with the Creative Economy Agency and the British Council's. Moreover, in this year, the National Craft Council Jakarta also participated in Indonesia Fashion Forward. "We have 30 designers in the first three years of this event and we saw many of those who got achievements in their business. For this year, we have more than 10 designers who participating in this program," explained Svida Alisjahbana.
According to Svida Alisjahbana, Jakarta Fashion Week is not just about a fashion show. It is a series of the developmental programs that built the local fashion industry. This event also is expected to be able to make Jakarta become one of the fashion city, at least in the regional scope.
Svida Alisjahbana also explained that every year Jakarta Fashion Week is always trying to step up and develop new things. This year, Jakarta Fashion Week with the Ministry of Industry tried to develop Ethical Fashion: which means, starting the fashion industry in a good and fair way in this country. Jakarta Fashion Week and British Council are together launching a sustainable fashion program.
Jakarta Fashion Week also cooperating with the outsiders, creating an interesting collaboration. Together with Japan Fashion Week organization, there will be a creative collection which involving Japanese designer and an entrepreneur from Solo. Jakarta Fashion Week with Australia also has a tight relationship as there is Australia Indonesia Center, and nowadays Jakarta Fashion Week is cooperating with Woolmark Company.
"Although the current economic is in a bad condition, we are very happy that our partners and sponsors still supporting this event. We as an organizer are greatly appreciates their trust and spirit in supporting Indonesian fashion industry," said Svida Alisjahbana in her speech.
