A Compromise between Idealism and Commercialism by LaSalle College

LaSalle College presented something different on the fourth day of Jakarta Fashion Week 2015, Tuesday, 4 November 2014. Carrying “Transcendence” theme, six young designers from the fashion school displayed their own collections, which were not only eye-catching, but also appropriate. Although it might seem that these collections were idealistic and full of personality, they were so on point, easy to wear, and, more importantly, ready to be presented and sold to the public.
Jennyfer Owen opened the show with “Bloodless”, a collection which felt dark and extraterrestrial due to its proportions and materials in a chromatic palette. Owen showed the middle ground between idealism and commercialism with her designs. Using a different approach, Anansa Taira revealed a very feminine collection which was far from boring, thanks to her exploration of orchid shape as the main inspiration.
Feminine characters also dominated the collections of Noussa by Fariza Anshory and Ligne by Clarissa Hartawan and Fransisca Shannen. A contemporary touch and precise attention to detail was very strong in those collections tersebut. Noticing a potential market, Fitlosophy showcased a sport and casual wear collection suitable for urban women with numerous activities.

The two final collections of LaSalle College show also offered a quirky twist. Bizarre, for instance, a label founded by Aginta Tamariska, Alodia Fedora, Putri Hutami, and Sharin Sinabung. They came up with “Beaufauna”, turning elephant and flamingo motifs into comic patterns on various ready-to-wear apparels which looked chic and witty. Finally, Linda Mulia offered childhood imagination by applying children’s drawing on clothing using embroidery and crystals.
