Autumn/Winter Collection by Debenhams
It is nice to see fresh seeds in Indonesian fashion industry, young designers who always come up with a new point of view. Binus Northumbria School of Design (BNSD) was no exception. Today, the fashion school presented their students’ creations in Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2015.
Through a show themed “The Magnificent Celebes”, BNSD challenged their students to explore and reproduce Central Indonesian culture with the latest touch. “Participating in an event as big as JFW and being in a community of Indonesian fashion professionals can be a rewarding experience,” said Amanda Prihutomo, Deputy of Head of Fashion Program BNSD. She also hoped that the students could be more appreciative of the richness and diversity of Indonesian culture.
A total of 12 BNSD students exhibited their collections in the show. Eiphel with “Pastel Petal”, Jessica Karina Samudra with “Dulcet Dauntless”, and Zana Cobitha with “Eastern Seduction” repackaged feminine shilouette into ready-to wear collections. Creativity in preparing Avant Garde asymmetrical and deconstructive was displayed through the works of Athalia Rebecca Thio with “Pearlescent”, Puspa Inten Lestari with “Mysteriux”, Alicia with “Mod Brazen”, and Nadia Rinelsa Umammi with “Irregular”.
Streetwear and sportswear trends, which recently “got a promotion”, also became sources of inspiration for BNSD young designers. The style was apparent in “Wayfaring” by Wajdan Alturki, “Dai Toshi” by Raissa Purnama, and “Signore Fino” by Claresta Elviana. A breathe of fresh air blew through “Bang” by Marsya I. Ramadhiani, a collection which made use of laser cut technology, as well as “Kkonminam”, a collection thick with post-apocalyptic style which was inspired by Korean wave subculture.
