Denny Wirawan Inspired by Spanish Romance Drama

For the sixth time, Indonesia Heart Foundation (Yayasan Jantung Indonesia) collaborated with an Indonesian famous designer in Jakarta Fashion Week to raise women’s concern about the health of their heart. This year, Indonesia Heart Foundation and designer Denny Wirawan presented “MAMITA, Spanish Embroidery” on Tuesday, November 4th, 2014.
The half Javanese/Balinese designer admitted that this collection was inspired by Matador’s Mistress, a movie based on a true love story of a legendary matador in Spain in the 1940’s. No wonder Wirawan’s designs were thick with Spanish nuances complete with embroidery, one of the handicraft heritages of Spain. “Mamita” itself means mother in Spanish, in line with the campaign of Indonesia Heart Foundation, “Go Red for Women” or “Perempuan Waspadalah” (“Women, Beware”).
The Ambassador of Indonesia Heart Foundation Susan Bachtiar, along with Anindita Makes and Ayunda Soemali, opened the show. Taking place in Fashion Tent Senayan City, Jakarta, the opening was accompanied by songs sung by Nina Tamam. Wirawan presented the Mamita character through a number of ready-made clothing with tempting and elegant silhouettes, from day wear, cocktail wear, to evening wear. The designs were rich in details like gems or crystals. Flowing ruffle details, lace applications, romantic floral prints, sassy polka-dot motifs, to sexy body con dresses mixed in white, black, beige, and red colors.
Moreover, Wirawan skillfully blended masculine matador appeal to create an edgy androgynous style trough embroidered boleros, shorts, and large-sized outerwear. To complete the looks, Wirawan made use of various wedges, platforms, and kitten heels by Marista Santividya.
