Korean Cinema on Runway

Jakarta, 3 November 2014. Fashion and film can influence—or even complement—each other. Today, Jakarta Fashion Week 2015 proved the interrelation of fashion and film through the collaboration between two Indonesian Fashion Forward labels, Monday to Sunday and Kurniawan Dwi Jehoshaphat, with Korean Cultural Center in Fashion Tent Senayan City.
The collections from Monday to Sunday and Kurniawan Dwi Jehoshaphat had a common thread: both were inspired by Korean cinema. If the designers of Monday to Sunday displayed modern trends of urban Korean youths, Jehoshaphat presented Korean couture trends from the ’50s and ’60s.
A Korean drama series, Coffee Prince, was the source of inspiration for “Bon Appétit!”, the Spring/Summer 2015 collection of contemporary label Monday to Sunday. Various playful looks were exhibited through print and draping techniques on dresses, jumpsuits, tops, and shorts. The collection looked simple but ultra stylish, making it suitable for younger fashionistas.
Differently, Jehoshaphat revealed a more serious collection with bold constructing lines and contrasting colors. Inspired by Masquerade movie, this collection featured a number of simple-cut blazers, long skirts and shorts with belts resembling Hanbok, and bodycon as well as cut-out dresses with beads. Simple-cut dresses appeared stunning due to bold constructions on the waist part. Unique!
