The Exploration of Peranakan Culture in Multicolor Clothing

Jakarta, 5th November 2014. There are many ways to interpret the beauty, and between them there is the richness of culture to be the benchmark. The interpretation of Indonesian culture could not be separated from the role of acculturation from different regions until the nation that fused in it. One of them, of course, the Peranakan culture has been merged into a piece of beauty. 
Peranakan, which was originally known as the cultural mix of Chinese and Indonesian, now increasingly established itself in the modern fashion trends but still full of value. Proved by a row of gorgeous clothing on the stage of Jakarta Fashion Week 2015, today, in a show entitled “Beauty Treasure” by designer Jeanny Ang.
The wealth of this archipelago clearly illustrated through various design of Kebaya nyonya to Batik with Buketan’s motif that was the signature in that afternoon. Divided into four sequences, namely “Morning Mood”, “Day Smile”, “Afternoon Bloom”, and “Evening Chic”, the show opened with a row of bright Peranakan batik clothes. From peplum to a cropped jacket that described the convenience of ideal motion in starting the day. Followed by a row of Kebaya Nyonya and batik with Betawi nuance, the legendary kebaya encim that the most wanted thing, was wrapped in muted pastel colors. Some of them wrapped in cheongsam piece to strengthen the acculturation.
Approaching the evening, Jeanny Ang interpreted the luxury through the theme of “Afternoon Bloom” full of a line of skirt and volume clothing. Still in pastel shades, in this occasion, Garut woven applied as the touch of beauty archipelago. Closed by a row of volume dresses, the luxury in that night also symbolized through the soft color like peach and mint green through “Evening Chic” which supporting the coolness and the romance of the night. Not only that, embroidery accent above the batik also enlivened Jeanny Ang’s fashion show, which emphasized the dimensional effects and also the dramatic texture
