When Anime Steal the Show
Jakarta, 4 November 2014. Childhood love for anime was the theme in the collaboration between Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2015 and Japan Foundation last night. Together with designers Albert Yanuar and Jenahara, two talented alumni of Indonesia Fashion Forward, the unique show combined elements of pop with fashion and anime. The result? A fresh nuance which successfully drew the audience’s attention
Jenahara presented “Insect Squad”, a dynamic and edgy collection. The daughter of actress Ida Royani made use of insect motifs on black, neon green, gold, and red materials, fusing them harmoniously with headscarves. They were far from the typical monotonous Muslim apparel. To make her bright-colored designs appeared even more prominent, Jenahara added various accessories with cool-hued gems, such as green and gray.
Well known as a luxury ready-to-wear designer, this time Yanuar took inspiration from his childhood favorite anime characters, including Sailor Moon. His sweet memories were embodied in “The Snow Queen”, a collection featuring a row of looks with dominant metallic colors which beautifully reflected lights to create a glamorous aura. Exhibiting highly innovative and intricate designs, Yanuar triumphantly transformed simple-cut dresses into both dresses and outers in one swish.
In this occasion, Jenahara and Yanuar also got to meet and exchange ideas with Aya Fujisaki, a Japanese designer whose work is synonymous with kawaii (cute) Harajuku style. Hopefully, this meeting will enrich the designers with more ideas and innovations for future works.
