Lombok Woven Fabric in Colorful Clothing

Inspired by the cultural diversity of Lombok, three young Indonesian designers—AriyArka, Rani Hatta, and Ayu Diah Andari—presented “Witchery of Mandalika”, displaying one of traditional Lombok hand-woven fabrics, kerang weave, in their collections. Located in Fashion Tent Senayan City Jakarta on Friday, 7 November 2014, the designers turned kerang weave into various apparels, from ready-to-wear to luxurious haute couture designs.
The show began with Abee collection by AriyArka. The collection, which was inspired by the noblemen of the ‘50s, exhibited monochrome colors, such as black, grey, and white, in various straight and sleek silhouettes made of kerang weave. Combining straight skirts with peplum tops turned out to be a perfect twist. For accent, AriyArka designed this collection with lightly volumized arms. A number of the designs were adorned with gracious embroidery, whereas tulle accents provided a stunning highlight on the back. Ladylike A-line long skirts created a more luxurious look.
Rani Hatta’s collection was also dominated by black, white, and gray. The minimalist and clean-striped collection made it highly wearable in daily life. Light and casual loose skirts became more sophisticated when combined with tail-cut blazers. Meanwhile, sporty impression appeared through the currently well-loved jogger pants, though they looked more feminine with dark-colored long coats. Posh accents appeared through glass-like accessories on the chest and arms.
Finally, Ayu Andari Couture by Ayu Dyah Andari offered her signature vintage style. The motifs of Lombok weave looked extravagant in gowns which resembled those of European noblewomen’s. It was as if we were brought to the fairytale world of Alice in Wonderland and The Nutcracker. Glamorous gowns in white, pastel, and red came up stunning with three-dimensional flower embroidery, sequins, Swarovski, and crystals.
