Muslim Clothing Goes Global

Jakarta, November 2, 2014. We must be proud because the world shows interest and concern on Indonesian Muslim fashion industry. This is a result of the participation of Indonesian Muslim designers and the support of various Indonesian figures, like what Indonesia Fashion Forward (IFF) did. A number of Indonesian Muslim designers, such as Dian Pelangi and Nur Zahra, have successfully established their names in various parts of Asia and Europe.
In a series of fashion show by IFF designer at Fashion Tent last Saturday afternoon, 1 November 2014, four Muslim fashion designers once again presented their latest collections. They were Restu Anggriani with her label Etu, NurZahra, Dian Pelangi and Norma Hauri.

Etu revealed a modern minimalist collection which fit the style of urban women. The common threads of the design were clean-cut clothes as well as woven accents on arms, collars, and the front of the shirt. The overall design looked fresh while still prioritizing comfort.

NurZahra showed up with her trademark—loose silhouette, outer kimono, and overlapping style. The designer did not hesitate to clash black, blue, and grey colors. The result? Effortless fashion which looked super stylish and world-class.
One word came to mind when enjoying Dian Pelangi’s collection for 2015. Glam. With alluring materials such as gold-threaded songket (hand-woven Indonesian brocade), an assortment of jackets and maxi skirts blended harmoniously with slick velvet, resulting in an even more luxurious look.
Norma Hauri showcased a different style in her collection, Regalia. The use of three-dimensional gems and gold embroidery asserted a sophisticated feminine silhouette, especially when coupled with accessories like pearl chokers. This seemed like the summary of every woman’s wishes.
