Recycling Plastic Waste Became Fashion Products
Plastic waste has always been a problem everywhere. In fact, the plastic waste could be a useful and interesting product if recycled properly. That was why in Jakarta Fashion Week 2015, The Body Shop Indonesia challenging three designers to make fashion products made from plastic waste recycled and revealed it in a show entitled “The Body Shop Upcycle To The Next Level” located in Fashion Atrium, Jakarta Fashion Week, on Friday, 7th November 2014.
According to Rika Anggraini, General Manager of Corporate Communication of The Body Shop Indonesia, this show is in accordance with The Body Shop’s values “Protect the Planet”. Nowadays theme was “Save the Sea” because of the numerous people throw the plastic wastes in the river that leads to sea. It affected to the marine habitat that perplexed. But with a creative way, the three designers involved in this project: Lenny Agustin, Carla Handayani and XS Project & Impact+, displayed the fashionable products made from upscyle plastic waste.
Carla Handayani successfully transformed the plastic spoon and fork into the unique necklaces. These plastics spoons and forks applied as the embellishment on the bags and clutches also. The pieces of plastic bottles was folded and organized nicely transformed into necklaces and flowers.
Meanwhile XS Project & Impact+ recycled plastic waste into the bold statement necklace. There were chocker minimalist necklace and the beautiful bracelets. One of the their best creation was a big clutch made from plastic waste that attired the attention of many people.
The designer, Lenny Agustin appeared with her fun collection which has been her identity. She interpreted the kid’s cheerfulness as her inspiration this time. The result was necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and multicolor clutch which made it as an eye-pleasing show. The plastic bottle was recycled into orbicular that formed into a fashionable necklace.
