The Long Journey of Itang Yunasz
Itang Yunasz made a breakthrough on the second day of Jakarta Fashion Week 2015, Sunday, 2 November 2015. For the first time, the senior designer presented a solo fashion show in Jakarta Fashion Week.
Yunasz had come a long way. In 1981, he started his career after winning second place in Lomba Perancang Mode, a fashion designer contest held by Femina Group. Yunasz decided to focus on Muslim wear in early 2000. Nowadays, his name is still going strong despite the mass of young designers which keeps popping up. In Jakarta Fashion Week 2015, Yunasz revealed sixty looks from his Spring/Summer collection, a result of his over than three decades of career.
Carrying “Exotic Journey” theme, Yunasz played around with various weaving techniques from central and eastern Indonesia, such as Balinese weaves and Sumba Ikat weaves. The use of digital printing and embroidery creative art added a three-dimensional touch to this collection. Furthermore, Yunasz also experimented with colors by mixing faded green with light blue, light blue with terracotta, light terracotta with indigoblue, and so on.
Yunasz’s collection was dominated by layering techniques, from long jackets over tunics made with woven techniques, loose tops with ruffle pile at the edges, to trousers. For a luxurious touch, the designer topped this collection with a variety of handmade accessories. The accessories, designed by Yunasz himself, were made of assorted materials, such as synthetic leather, solid rocks, crystals, shells, and glittering beads. Not too much, just fabulous.
To achieve perfection, Yunasz included a selection of shoes by Nefrine Fadlan Shoes for Itang Yunasz and leather bags by Mira Sayogo Indonesia for Itang Yunasz.
