The Shining Three Young Designers
Appreciation to a high quality artwork always generates a new, different idea – especially, if it comes from the young generation who have passion for positive changes. This was what happened when Mazda was back to support three young talented designers. This year, it was Identité, Patrick Owen, and Soko Wiyanto who were chosen as Mazda designers on the fifth year of Mazda Young and Vibrant Designers show, which was held at the Jakarta Fashion Week 2014 (24/10). Various interpretations from different point of views livened up the fashion tent stage located at Senayan City.
Mazda, indeed, has been known to have a full commitment not only in the development of the automotive industry, but also in the preservation and development of high quality artworks. The choosing of three young and vibrant designers was not a coincidence. It was implied in Keizo Okue’s statement. He was the President of PT. Mazda Motor Indonesia. He said that the visions and missions of the tree young designers were in accordance with Mazda’s work ethic and philosophy that were reflected in the perfection of Mazda car designs, inspired through its primary theme, Kodo – Soul Motion.
Identité, run by its two designers, Jessica Yuri and Winny Christy, opened the fashion show with its high ideals. The urban life’s phenomena, which were accorded with the spirit of Mazda’s Zoom-Zoom, transformed into a collection that adapted Leonardo da Vinci’s concept “Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication”. The concept reflected independent women with a strong character. Started with a blouse and maroon A-line skirt made of leather which gave strong and daring impressions, Identité asserted its statement style through the unique decoration in the front of the skirt which resembled a jacket being wrapped around the waist. Next, there was a sporty outfit in white that seemed to invade the stage with its silhouette twists. Starting from layered crop tops made of transparent material, sweat pants, midi skirts, shirts, short pants, skirts, maxi dresses with a high slits, to various kinds of jackets managed to be presented in a whole youthful collection.
The adventurous side of women, which was packed with details, was reflected in the Kodo design that always paid attention to the perfection of Mazda cars. Owen translated it to his dashing collection through selected material and structure. Bringing up the big theme “Glimpses of Metropolitan Grunge, Playful and Romantic Silhouette, Romantic and Subtle prints, and Androgyny Sophistication”, he created many variations of styles by choosing detailed ornaments. A mini dresses with feathery accent on the back appeared feminine, while a long sleeve crop top that was combine with a sequins accent and mullet skirt gave a glamour impression. Moreover, Owen also showcased a motif printed dress and paired a motif printed blouse with a textured skirt.
The show ended by the dazzling red dresses of Wiyanto, a combination of tulle and ruffle, which took one and a half month in the making process. The collection was inspired by the beauty of Mazda cars. Wiyanto, who are now starting his second line clothing “Maha Atelier” described the feminine side of women through the curve-hugging dresses in full skirt silhouette. Cocktail attire with peplum cutting and frilled mini dresses successfully translated “Fior’e”, the big theme of Wiyanto’s design which was inspired by the beauty of spring flowers.
