Uniform Industry Potential for Designer

On the second day of Jakarta Fashion Week 2014, Sunday 2nd November 2014, a designer, Musa Widyatmojo appeared differently different from another designer. He displayed 12 uniforms for man and woman, and also published his cooperation with uniform retail company, Bellini.
Eight years ago, Musa met Bellini to fulfill the demands of a client who wanted a uniform by Musa. After that teamwork, Musa was known as a uniform designer. Even, he did research to Europe and Asia to develop his design for uniform. So no wonder if his uniform designs are widely used by various agencies, government and private, such as Garuda Indonesia, Air Asia, BCA, BNI, BRI, Bank Mandiri, Bank Danamon, Bank Niaga, police, military and local government.
According to Musa in his press conference, uniform industry has a sizeable market and could be a new area for the designer. Because there aren’t much of rivals yet, uniform industry could be an attractive area to develop the creativity. Even Pierre Balmain, an haute couture French designer, also designed Singapore Airlines flight attendant’s uniform, using a combination of kebaya and batik sarong with couture techniques.
Beside Musa’s collection, this show enlivened also with the showcase from MIDO and six creations of finalist of uniform design’s competition “Style @ Work” which held by Bellini and Femina Group. Themed of this year was “Priority Banking Front Liner” and it aimed to the fashion design student who participated in Jakarta Fashion Week 2015. Three finalists eventually chosen by the judges, Chandra Andriati (President Director of MIDO), Musa Widyatmodjo and Hanafie Akhmad (Fashion editor of Femina Goup).
Juli Panto Kesuma was the first winner and got a cash prize of 30 million rupiah as his reward. He featured work apparel, in blazer and short skirt in a pale green color and black and maroon for men’s suits work clothes. Felisia Budi became the second winner, won a cash prize of Rp 20 million. She matched the suit blazer, trousers and dark and light gray pencil skirt. The third winner was Arlini Hapsari Putu Pramoedya, that she won Rp 10 million as the cash prize. She combined a blazer and short skirt for women in dark gray shades.
For Chandra Andriati, the most important thing of the uniform was the function and the durability of the materials, because the uniform will be used by the employee for at least one year. In addition, Musa also emphasized the convenience of the uniform. “My advice to the young designers are; expand networking with the textile or garment factory because we are going to produce a uniform in large quantities,” said Musa
